How this is calculated

Formula

Contribution = the chart’s figure for (age at joining, pension)

With your numbers

  1. 1Look up the chartage 25, pension ₹5,000₹376 a month
  2. 2Years of contribution60 − age at joining60 − 25 = 35
  3. 3Total contributedmonthly × 12 × years₹376 × 12 × 35 = ₹1,57,920
Monthly contribution₹376
  • The pension is the minimum the Government guarantees. If returns on the contributions exceed what the chart assumes, a higher pension is paid; if they fall short, the Government makes up the difference.
  • After the subscriber, the spouse receives the same pension; after both, the nominee receives the corpus, indicated at ₹8,50,000 for this pension.
  • From 1 October 2022, nobody who is or has been an income-tax payer may join. Those who joined before then continue.
  • Contributions are debited from your savings account. The scheme’s rules on missed contributions, changing the pension and exit before 60 are on the APY pages of PFRDA and your bank.
