The reduced sum a policy keeps paying if you stop premiums but do not surrender it.
A policy becomes paid-up when premiums stop after the minimum period. The sum assured is cut in proportion to the premiums paid against those that were due: premiums paid ÷ premiums payable × sum assured, plus additions already vested. That amount is paid at maturity or on death.
It is the base for the special surrender value, and one of the three paths compared in the Insurance Lab.
