A period at the start of a loan when no EMI is due, though interest usually still runs.
An education loan typically has a moratorium for the length of the course plus a short period after it. Interest accrues through it, and lenders treat it in one of two ways: you pay it as it falls due, or it accrues (simply or compounded) and is added to the principal, so the EMIs that follow are on a larger loan.
Which way your lender works changes the total cost noticeably, which is why the calculator models each.
Figures on this page are filled from the same tax and scheme tables the calculators use, for the current financial year. Every term in the glossary.
